Ingredients

Donut Bars
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
Brown Butter Maple Vanilla Bean Glaze
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter for browning
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • 1 tbsp milk to thin if necessary

Method

Prepare the Donut Bars
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
Make the Glaze
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma.
  2. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the browned butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste until smooth.
  4. If the glaze is too thick, add a tablespoon of milk to reach desired consistency.
Glaze the Donut Bars
  1. Once the donut bars are completely cool, drizzle the glaze over the top.
  2. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before slicing into bars.
  3. Serve and enjoy!
