Method
Prepare the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
Make the Filling
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter until well combined.
Roll and Cut
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side and cut into 12 equal pieces.
Bake the Rolls
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and cover with a towel. Let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Prepare the Frosting
- In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Serve
- Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve immediately.
