Ingredients

Pasta and Beef
  • 1 cup orzo uncooked
  • 1 lb ground beef 85% lean
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
Tomato Cream Sauce
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 14.5 oz, undrained
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for cooking
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil chopped, for garnish

Method

Cook the Orzo
  1. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the orzo and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Prepare the Beef
  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
Make the Sauce
  1. Add the canned diced tomatoes (with juices) to the beef mixture. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Reduce heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and grated parmesan cheese. Cook until the sauce is heated through, about 3-5 minutes.
Combine and Serve
  1. Add the cooked orzo to the skillet with the sauce, stirring to combine. Heat through for 2 minutes.
  2. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil.
