Ingredients
  

Cracker Base
  • 1 package saltine crackers or any plain crackers
Caramel Sauce
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts optional

Method
 

Prepare the Baking Sheet
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Make the Caramel
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup.
  2. Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil, then let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Combine and Bake
  1. Pour the caramel mixture over the arranged crackers, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, until bubbly.
  3. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
Add Toppings
  1. If using, sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over the hot caramel.
  2. Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
