Method
Prepare the Baking Sheet
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Make the Caramel
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup.
- Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil, then let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Combine and Bake
- Pour the caramel mixture over the arranged crackers, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, until bubbly.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
Add Toppings
- If using, sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over the hot caramel.
- Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
