Ingredients
  

Sweet Potatoes
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes peeled and thinly sliced
Cream Sauce
  • 2 cups heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup milk whole milk preferred
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour for thickening
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg freshly grated preferred
Cheese Topping
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or Gruyère cheese

Method
 

Prepare the Sweet Potatoes
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Using a mandoline or sharp knife, slice the sweet potatoes into thin rounds.
Make the Cream Sauce
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, milk, melted butter, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until smooth.
Assemble the Dish
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sweet potato slices, then pour half of the cream sauce over them.
  2. Repeat with the remaining sweet potatoes and cream sauce.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly on top.
Bake
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden brown.
Serve
  1. Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your scalloped sweet potatoes!
