Method
Prepare the Oven and Pan
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
Combine Wet Ingredients
- In another bowl, mix the sugar, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine Mixtures
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped apples and optional walnuts or nutmeg if using.
Bake the Bread
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and serve as desired.
