Ingredients
  

Chicken
  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts pounded to even thickness
Breading
  • 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese divided
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
Sauce
  • 1 cup marinara sauce for serving
Toppings
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil chopped, for garnish

Method
 

Prepare Chicken
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness using a meat mallet.
Prepare Breading
  1. In a shallow dish, combine whole wheat breadcrumbs, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Bread Chicken
  1. Dip each chicken breast into the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breading.
Cook Chicken
  1. Place the breaded chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  2. Cook for 10 minutes, then flip the chicken and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Add Sauce and Cheese
  1. After the chicken is cooked, spoon marinara sauce over each piece and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese.
  2. Return to the air fryer and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve
  1. Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot.

Notes
