  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup plain yogurt (or sour cream)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Set aside.
  3. In one bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, whisk melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Combine dry ingredients with wet mixture until just blended.
  6. Spread half the batter into the pan; layer with half the apple slices.
  7. Spread remaining batter over apples; top with remaining slices.
  8. Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown; toothpick should come out clean.
  10. Cool for 10–15 minutes before serving warm or at room temperature.
