  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade by whisking together 1 tbsp soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil in a bowl. Add beef strips and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until caramelized. Season with salt and pepper before removing from the pan.
  3. Over high heat, add remaining oil to the same skillet and sear marinated beef for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, mix remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour over beef in the skillet and simmer until thickened.
  5. Return onions to the pan, stir to combine everything well, and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
