  • ½ cup reserved pasta water
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions, salt, and sugar if desired. Cook slowly for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Season with black pepper.
  3. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti or linguine according to package instructions until al dente; reserve ½ cup of pasta water before draining.
  4. Combine drained pasta with the onion mixture in the skillet and add reserved pasta water. Stir well.
